IUCN CEM Young Professionals Award!

I’m excited to finally announce that I was awarded the International Union for Conservation of Nature Commission on Ecosystem Management Young Professional Award for 2020! It was announced at the IUCN World Conservation Congress last month, after many many delays. During the ceremony, the brilliant David Keith was awarded the Luc Hoffman Award for his outstanding contributions to ecosystem science over the years.

The award was in acknowledgement of the work I undertook during my PhD to improve how we monitor change in ecosystems at local to global levels. This included reviewing how change is measured in ecosystems in ecosystem risk assessments (see post here), the developing and testing three indicators to monitor trends in ecosystems around the world, and developing a guide to capturing uncertainty in indicator trends.

During the congress, I presented on recent work reviewing the indicators suggested for an ecosystem goal in the post-2020 global biodiversity framework [watch it here].
